Second Generation

2. John Theobald "Dewalt" Mechling (Theobald ) was born 11 November 1731. He moved to Westmoreland County, PA between 1772 and 1774. He served as an ensign on the 8th Continental Line of the Pennsylvania Regulars. He was severely wounded at the Battle of Bound Brook in New Jersey. He died 29 March 1816 and is buried at Feightner`s Cemetery in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, PA. The Mechling Historical Association placed a new tombstone here to mark the site of Dewalt and Sabilla`s burial location.

Dewalt married Sabilla Kohler around 1756 or 1757. Sabilla was born 1736 in Northampton Co., PA.

They had the following children:

  2. + 11 ii Michael Mechling was born 14 Nov 1759 and died 22 Feb 1833.
  3. 12 iii Johann Peter Mechling was born 1760 and baptized 30 March 1760 at Zion`s Lutheran Church in Lower Macungie Township, Northampton Co., PA. He died as a child.
  4. + 13 iv Sybilla Mechling was born 26 Feb 1762 and died 27 Jan 1844.
  5. + 14 v Jacob Mechling was born 1 Jan 1765 and died 7 Jun 1831.
  6. + 15 vi Anna Elizabeth Mechling was born 4 Mar 1767 and died 29 Jul 1849.
  7. + 16 vii Frederick Mechling was born 1769 and died 10 Jun 1834.
  8. + 17 viii Barbara Mechling was born 12 Apr 1772 and died 6 Feb 1842.
  9. + 18 ix John Mechling was born 22 May 1773 and died 3 Mar 1850.
  10. + 19 x Anna Maria Mechling was born 8 Feb 1776 and died 2 Sep 1838.
  11. 20 xi Catherine Mechling was born 17 Jun 1779 and baptized 26 June 1779 at Old Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hempfield twp., Westmoreland Co., PA. Nothing more known about her.

3. John Peter* Mechling (Theobald) was born about 1737 in Bucks Co., PA. He died 1765 in Northampton County, PA.

Peter married Anna Barbara Kurr on 21 Oct 1760. Anna was born 25 Dec 1737 and died September 3, 1804 in Lebanon County, PA.

They had the following children:

  1. 21 i Catherine Mechling was baptized 17 June 1762 and died in infancy.
  2. 22 ii Catherine Mechling was baptized 16 Oct.1763 with sponsors Jacob Mechling & Catherine Hittler or Hissler.
  3. 23 iii Elizabeth Mechling was born about 1764.
  4. + 24 iv Philip Macklin was born 8 Nov 1765 and died 6 Sep 1843.

5. Anna Elizabeth Mechling (Theobald ) was born 25 Aug 1741. She died 26 Nov 1874 is buried at Jordan Lutheran Church Cemetery in Northampton Co., PA.

Anna married Leonhard Steininger on 8 April 1760. Leonhard died 14 May 1778.

They had the following children:

  2. + 26 ii Leonard Steininger, Jr. was born b. 20 Nov. 1762 and died 4 Mar. 1849.

  4. + 28 iv Maria Barbara Steininger was born 15 June 1767.
  5. 29 v Elizabeth Catherine Steininger was born 27 Aug. 1769.
  6. + 30 vi Dewald Steininger was born 28 Sep 1772 and died 15 Mar 1858
  7. + 31 vii John Philip Steininger was born 16 June 1775 and died 15 Apr.1870.
  8. + 32 viii Christian Steininger was born 25 Apr. 1777 died 28 Feb 1868.

7. John Jacob* Mechling (Theobald ) was born 28 February 1747, baptized 20 April 1747 at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Upper Milford with Thomas Kurr and his wife, Elizabeth as Godparents. Jacob took communion on the first time in 1764. On the 19 April 1774 Jacob took out a warrant for land and received the patent from Thomas Penn and John Penn on 16 March 1775 for 311 acres purchased in Hempfield township in Westmoreland County, PA. During the Revolutionary War, he served as Captain of the 4th Battalion of the Pennsylvania Militia. The 1783 Tax List shows John Jacob with 300 acres, 3 horses, 4 cows and 6 sheep. He died 8 November 1824 and is buried in Feightner Cemetery near Youngwood, Westmoreland County, PA.

John married Catharine about 1766. Catharine was born in 1748 and died 18 Aug 1832 in Westmoreland Co, PA.

They had the following children:

  2. + 34 ii Jacob Mechling was born 8 Dec 1770 and died 10 Jan 1860.
  3. + 35 iii Mary Mechling was born about 1772 and died 1851/1852.
  4. + 36 iv George J. Mechling was born 30 May 1773 and died 8 Feb 1853.
  5. + 37 v John Philip* Mechling was born 10 Nov 1779 and died 18 Oct 1869.
  6. 38 vi Catherine Mechling was born 4 Oct 1781 in Westmoreland Co, PA and was baptized 5 Dec 1781 in Greensburg, Westmoreland Co, PA. Catherine married Sebastian Swartz before 1815 in Westmoreland Co,PA. No children.
  7. + 39 vii William Mechling was born 23 Oct 1784 and died 18 Apr 1855.
  8. + 40 viii Elizabeth Mechling was born 1786 and died 18 Apr 1834.
  9. + 41 ix Susanna Mechling was born 31 Mar 1791 and died 1870.

8. Philip Mechling (Theobald ) was born about 1749. He served as Ensign in the 1st Company, 2nd Battalion of the Northampton County Militia and died 11 November 1817 in York Co. PA. By occupation, he was a tanner.

Philip married Katherine Wetzel on June 11, 1770 in the Zion Lutheran Church in Northampton County, PA.

They had the following children:

  1. 42 i Jacob Mechling was born 31 Mar. 1773 in Northampton Co., PA and died before 1813.
  2. + 43 ii Philip Jonas Mechling was born 5 Nov. 1774 and died 19 Aug. 1847.
  3. + 44 iii Solomon Mechling was born 22 Aug. 1776 and died 25 Feb. 1848.
  4. 45 iv Frederick Mechling was born 17 Mar. 1778 and died before 1813.
  5. + 46 v Daniel Mechling was born 1 Nov. 1779 and died 2 Jan. 1859
  6. 47 vi Catherine Mechling married John Edgend.
  7. + 48 vii Elizabeth Mechling was born 18 Feb. 1785 and died 19 Aug. 1859.

  9. + 50 ix John Mechling was born 18 May 1795 and died June 1835.

9. Thomas Mechling (Theobald) was born 4 Aug 1751 and was baptized 25 August 1751 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Upper Milford with Thomas Kurr and his wife as Godparents. He was confirmed in 1766. He was a Lieutenant in the 3rd Company, of Captain Peter Schuller, 2nd Battalion of the Northampton County Militia. He died 8 June 1786 in Lehigh County, PA.

Thomas married Katherine Walsh. Katherine was born 20 Nov 1754 and died 13 June 1830.

They had the following children:

  1. 51 i J. William Mechling was born 10 Oct. 1774.
  2. 52 ii Jacob Mechling was born 20 Apr. 1776.
  3. + 53 iii John Jarret Mechling was born 28 July 1778 and died 12 Aug. 1856.
  4. 54 iv Anna Mechling was born 23 Dec. 1779. She married John George Beyer.
  5. + 55 v Anna Barbara Mechling was born 4 Apr. 1782.
  6. + 56 vi Peter Mechling was born 20 Feb. 1784 and died about 1865.
