Fourth Generation

56 Dewalt Mechling (Dewalt, Dewalt, Theobald) was born 6 Dec 1778 in Westmoreland Co., PA and was bap. 24 Jan. 1779 as Theobald Mechling in Old Zion Evangelical Church, Hempfield twp. He died 30 July 1838 in Fairfield County, Ohio.

In 1799 Dewalt married Mary, probably the daughter of Peter and Margaret (Keister) Rugh, born 20 Oct. 1780 and baptized as Anna Maria, with sponsors - Theobald and Maria Machling. Mary died 10 Dec. 1851.

In 1799, Dewalt went to Ohio with the idea of exploring the country prepartory to settling there, and in 1800 he brought his wife and baby son, Jacob to Ohio. In 1810 Dewalt was ordained a minister in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ and thereafter was a circuit rider, traveling throughout southern Ohio.

The churchyard where he is buried is now known as White Church Cemetery or E.U.B. Cemetery, just northeast of Lancaster, Ohio.

    11. Michael Mechling (John Theobald "Dewalt", Theobald) was born 14 Nov 1759 in Northampton Co., PA. He died 22 Feb 1833 in Kittanning Twp., Armstrong Co., PA and buried 23 Feb 1833 in Armstrong Co., PA.

    Michael married (1) Anna Marie "Polly" Altman on 1782 in PA. Anna was born 1766 and died 10 Mar 1811 in Kittanning Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.

    They had the following children:
